Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
exists when a person is consistently unable to control their behavior and remain focused on a task. Impulsiveness
and hyperactivity may also be present. It is estimated that people with ADD represent approximately 3-5% of the population.
People with ADD
often find it difficult to organize their work, follow instructions, finish assignments or complete
tasks. However, when they are particularly interested in something, they may be able to temporarily focus their
attention and apply themselves to a task.
Most children with ADD
will continue to have ADD as adults. If properly managed, many of the characteristics of childhood ADD can be beneficial
qualities in adulthood.
